Something For Me

I spend so much time making things to sell or give to people that I never have the time to make anything for myself. The topper I have on my coffee table was one of the very first attempts I did at making a patchwork topper. So this one is for me.

It measures approximately 54" x 54"
Some of the cotton fabrics were very floppy and flimsy so I ironed on interfacing to make them easier to work with.
I'm really pleased with how it turned out and love the cool colours.

When I get some more time I'd like to make some matching coasters and also a runner for my dining table to match this one. At the moment it's in the shop where I sell my runners. My friend who runs the shop asked if I'd leave it there for a while. I told her only on the condition that she didn't sell it no matter what the price was. I'm too tired to make another one right now.
The following day someone wanted to buy it but she told them it wasn't for sale.

I'm going to be bringing it home in a couple of days time. Maybe then I'll make the coasters.

  2. Very, very effective colours and design, Maria!!!

  3. Beautiful! Does your friend keep it in her shop because she's just enjoying looking at it? :)

    1. Hi, She does LOLLL and also it brings in custom. Someone may see it and like the design but not the colour or maybe want it bigger or even smaller. I'm the only one in our town that I know of that does this kind of work so I get quite a lot of interest. Most of my customers have come via this shop.

  4. Very pretty - and lots of work! It's definitely time for you to make some goodies for yourself!

  5. GORGEOUS work Maria....the colors are AWESOME!!!!!

  6. Hi MAria,
this is beautiful! You are so busy!

  7. It is difficult to take the time to sew for yourself when you are always sewing for others but don't you deserve the best too? This is beautiful.

  8. I'm glad you took the time to make something for yourself Maria and use a bit of that pretty turquoise color too! It's beautiful and you do deserve to own one of your own creations, lol!!!! It's Worldwide Quilting day today too, so all the more reason to have your own quilted table topper to celebrate!

  10. My goodness hun, just how big is your coffee table? lol From the sounds of it, it wouldn't even fit in my lounge room haha Good job though on making yourself something for a change. Hugs Naomi

  12. visiting from sew many ways. How flattering to have someone want to buy your quilt. Great that you are not parting with it.

  13. The quilt is indeed beautiful. You mentionned using interfacing for the top... I never thought of using it for that even though I use it all the time with appliqués. Thank you for the idea!

  14. Beautiful work Maria, Fabulous colours.

  15. Beautiful! I just love the texture the quilting gave! Not surprised that someone wanted to purchase it :)
