First of all sorry I haven't been around for a while, I went to visit my daughter so had a few sewing days free which was nice, I can't believe I said that LOLL. We did six hours of fabric shopping and I also bought a press for rivets and grommets which I'll show you after I've introduced you to a fairly new designer, Sarah Goodall.
I've known Sarah for a while as we're on the same FB bag group and we're also administrators of the group but I obviously don't know her that well becasue it was on there that I found out quite by accident that she designs bags. After checking out her patterns I was amazed at how beautiful they were and me being me couldn't pass up the opportunity to ask if I could be her tester. I did a little begging and she accepted, thanks Sarah. LOLL
Sarah has been really busy since January building up a collection of retro style bag designs and I can't wait to make them. There were a couple that caught my eye and to my delight Sarah sent me the pattern for one of them. It's called the
Mississippi Bag
This is Sarah's Bag, isn't it just gorgeous.
The collection is called 50 State Bag Range and if you go
HERE you'll see which states have their own bag design. I thought that was a clever idea.
All the patterns are PDF downloads and come complete with a list of materials, cutting list, clear step by step sewing instructions with illustrations and the pattern pieces. Sarah also offers full support if you should have any difficulties.
The bag above has already been tested and I just read through the pattern last night. It was clearly written in an easy to follow format and I can't see me having any problems with it but once I've made it I'll let you all know how I got on.
By now you're possibly thinking this is just advertising for Sarah's designs but I can assure you it's not. I'm very picky who I test for. I only choose designers who write clear patterns with photos or clear illustrations. I'm too busy to be wasting time trying to figure out what on earth a bag designer is talking about and also I just don't have the patience. If I don't get it when I read it the first time then it's no good to me. So go over to
Numbskull Patterns and take a look for yourself, even if you don't buy any they're great eye candy.
Now time to show you some of my purchases. I'm using some of these fabrics at the moment. I can't tell you what it is as I've been sworn to secrecy until the pattern is released. All I can say is I'm doing a test pattern, it's BIG and I have to try and finish it by the end of August. Keep an eye out for this one.
I also stocked up on some hardware.
These are small grommets that I'm planning on using on my Necessary Clutch Wallets along with the rivets.
I also bought larger magnetic buttons for the wallets and some key chain rings.
This is the press I bought to install the rivets and grommets. The good thing about it is you can use it to press anything so long as you have the right attachments. Next I want to get the attachment for making fabric buttons.
These are the attachments for the rivets and grommets.
This is a fabric hole puncher.
And I found some great fusible interfacing which is really stiff, just 10 meters LOLLL to test it out.
Ok I must dash now. I've got loads to sew and little time. If you don't hear from me in the next couple of weeks it will be becasue I'm drowning in a sea of fabric. It's the only way to go, right. LOLL
Happy Sewing to you all.
